First apple blossom

s-apple-blossom-2010-04-10-1.JPG

In the fall of 2008, I planted 10 young apple trees and a pear tree. The trees came from Century Farm Orchards. They’re all old Southern varieties of apple trees. Each tree was about 3 feet tall when I planted them.

I don’t expect apples for three years or more, but I did have my first blooms this week. Two of the trees had small, single blooms. So far so good.

Greetings – I am very happy to have found your blog. Years ago I cut out some floor plans of Rodney Pf…’s from Country Living magazine. This morning I put in a search for his name to see if I could find the plans on line. And not only did your site come up on my screen but the beautiful house you built is nearly identical to the one that I cut out so long ago. The outside looks to be the same. Inside are a couple of differences – in my version the stairs are straight ahead between the living room and kitchen, and where you have your stairs is where the dining room is located in my version. Very interesting to see how your house progressed. You’ve done a great job. I don’t know if I will ever get to the point where I can actually build this house so for now it is nice to just dream about it.
    Thanks, Jane

I certainly hope you build the house, Jane. I believe there are at least two, and maybe three, versions of the floor plan. I have a tremendous respect for Rodney Pfotenhauer, the architect. I discovered while building the house that he had thought through everything. Best of luck to you…

They vary from about four feet to over six feet. Last year I think I was just glad that they survived their first summer. This year I’m hoping for more growth.
