Farmer's market, etc.

Tomatoes are not yet plentiful. When they are, the price will come down.

Ken and I went to the Danbury Farmer’s Market today. Ken took some photos along the way. Here are today’s photos, along with a couple of older catch-up photos.

As for the rainfall, one farmer said they got about half an inch last night. Another farmer got almost an inch of rain.

This is the stand of the farmer couple that this summer we’ve been calling our favorite farmers.

The tobacco crop seems to have handled the hot, dry weather very well.

Ken built a firepit down at the edge of the woods. We had our first fire in it last Friday evening, a rare cool evening.

Ken with his last supper before starting a three-day fast. He’ll end the fast at dinner tonight, for which he has requested pizza and apple pie.

WoW!!! Love the fire pit!!! Great job Ken!! What progress the two of you have made so far this summer… Every day I have to check on the Abbey and see what new and exciting things have happened over the weekend!!
How is the garden coming along?

I have been traveling too much so far this summer to plant mine.. I’ve been to Asheville 6 or 7 times since February… I have decided to sell my 3 acres and buy at least 10 acres to build my cottage on… I need more of a solar window and a stream to do what I would like to do on the property. Water and Land will be most important in the near future… I would like to have a stream to water the gardens if it came down to that…

The garden is a little dry at present, but we’ve kept things going with the hose. You are exactly right about having a stream. You want as many sources of water as you can get. I have a small stream, but it tends to stop flowing when it’s needed most.

That’s my top priority is a good flowing stream and enough flat land to plant on with a good solar window… It’s asking a lot in the Asheville area but I have found a few possible sites… The one I loved the most however is partly in a flood zone… Now it’s a matter of finding out how much of it is in the flood zone. But the house house and small lake is fead by a natural spring…. Still searching but on the right track… The house was a total tear down but gave me a reason to build my cottage on the same location or further up land if the house sat in the flood zone… So much to think about not only now but for the future condition of the financial market. My family made it through the depression because they had land, crops and water…. Self sufficient as much as one family could be… Something not many people know about these days… That’s why I said before… Ham Radio operators will be a rare commodity in the near future….. and cell phones will be useless…. Hard to convince main stream society of that these days!!! Solar flares will soon start melting down modern day communications…..
