Before the fence was installed last year, it was the deer that did the most damage. But now, with most of the high-value stuff inside the fence, the deer can&#8217;t wipe me out. But the raccoons know all sorts of tricks.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty sure it was a raccoon that killed my young chickens. Most of my watermelons have been destroyed (I had only a small crop of watermelons), and it appears to be raccoons&#8217; work. Only raccoons, I think, would have the dexterity to open a watermelon and scoop out the goody. Luckily, I had harvested most of the corn, but the raccoons got the rest. They pulled the stalks to ground, then ripped the ears off the stalks.<\/p>\n<p>I can certainly see why the old-timers had a zero-tolerance policy toward thievin&#8217; varmints. I can&#8217;t let the raccoons get away with this next year.
