It has taken years, but America has finally come back to its senses. Those of us who saw the danger all along are vindicated after years of watching Republicans and oligarchs destroy the American democracy piece by piece. But I already feel my anger subsiding, recognizing that the best revenge against fascists is justice, democracy, and good government.
We have a new Congress, but we still have a dangerous crazy man in the White House. He won’t give up on trying to turn us into Russia and using his remaining time to continue the looting of America and to pardon the looters. Do I dare to hope that, now that it’s obvious that Trump has led the Republican Party to the edge of destruction, that Republicans will turn on him and cooperate in impeachment? I don’t think it’s impossible, as Republicans figure out that taking Trump down is their only tiny shred of hope for 2028.
There are a lot of people who belong in prison for what they’ve done. I hope the new Congress will remember that justice demands that criminals must be held accountable.
The billionaires who strutted and gloated at Trump’s inauguration two years ago must be given what they deserve — taxation, regulation, and investigation, starting with Elon Musk.
And let’s not forget religion. Fascists would never have been able to come to power in this country without the help of the churches.
If Trump is allowed to remain in office, there is an upside. That upside is that Trump will continue to do everything possible to continue to do what Putin wants him to do to America. In that case, Americans will have another opportunity for revenge against fascism in the presidential election of 2028. With a Democratic Congress and a Democrat in the White House, we will finally be able to do something about the Supreme Court, which has shown very clearly that fascism is just what it wants.
Some of us have been using the word fascism for years, because that’s what it is. Too many Americans obviously cannot recognize fascism in the abstract, before fascists start doing what fascists always do with power. But Americans do recognize fascism when fascism comes to power and the little people who fell for the deceit start getting the wrong end of the stick.
What is it that politicians always say at the end of their speeches? Oh right. I remember. God bless the United States of America.
